Faulty brakes contribute to 7% of MOT failures and can lead to a much worse outcome if they are not checked. The suspension is also a common failure. 13% of failures are because of suspension problems. One thing that can damage your suspension is hitting a pothole. So if you have hit one it could be a good idea to get it checked. It is something you can’t easily check yourself.
