When replacing my Tyres, do I need to replace them with the same brands?

At Express Fit, we are often asked if it is best practice to replace your tyres with the same brand as when your Vehicle was Manufactured.

The answer is… No, there is no legal requirement to replace your Vehicle with the same branded tyres.

Vehicle and tyre Manufacturers work closely together to ensure your vehicle has the recommended, Size, Speed rating and tyre tread pattern of a modern car model. They’ll consider all aspects of your driving experience, like noise and handling. Choosing to change your tyre brand Quality or tread pattern, is important, as selecting the wrong tyre for your Vehicle could result in uncomfortable road handling and distracting noises.

Do I get New Tyres to the front or back?

At Express Fit we advise you to refer to your Manufacturer documentation first, but if it doesn’t give specific advise, we recommend the newest or better branded tyres should be on the back, whether your car is front-wheel drive or rear-wheel drive.

Replacing the back tyres with the newest or better branded tyres, should limit the possibility of your vehicle spinning and losing control in cold and wet conditions, when gripping is impaired.

Legal Tyre Requirements

The legal Tyre requirement is to ensure: –

. The correct tyres are fitted to your vehicle.

. Sufficient tread and depth of tread – at least 1.6mm in the center, with ¾ of the tread in a continuous band around the tyre.

. Your tyres are in good condition and correctly pressurised as per Manufactures recommendation, which will be in your Manufacturers documentation.
